Hyderabad, Mar 25 (TNT): South Central Railway (SCR) has recorded its highest-ever freight loading since inception, handling 144.244 million tonnes (MTs) in the current financial year 2025–26 up to March 24.
The milestone was achieved a week ahead of the financial year-end, surpassing the previous record of 144.14 MTs registered in 2024–25, SCR said in a release here on Wednesday.
Coal and cement continued to dominate freight loading, with 66.878 MTs of coal and 37.572 MTs of cement transported during the period while other major commodities included iron ore (8.620 MTs), fertilisers (8.038 MTs), raw materials for steel plants (4.810 MTs), food grains (6.225 MTs), containers (2.561 MTs), petroleum products (1.223 MTs) and other goods (8.349 MTs).
SCR said the achievement was driven by coordinated efforts across departments and proactive measures to diversify its freight basket by attracting new commodities, apart from traditional segments like coal and cement.
The zone has also focused on improving infrastructure, enhancing freight terminals and goods sheds, and maintaining regular engagement with customers to address their requirements.
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava appreciated the efforts of operations and commercial teams, along with engineering, mechanical, electrical and signalling departments, for achieving the milestone.
He commended the staff for their coordinated approach and encouraged them to sustain the momentum and further expand freight business.
