Rajnath Singh Chairs First IGoM Meet on West Asia Situation, Reviews Impact on India

New Delhi, Mar 28 (TNT): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday chaired the first meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) constituted to monitor the evolving situation in West Asia and assess its impact on India.

The meeting was attended by senior Union Ministers, including Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri, Manohar Lal Khattar, J. P. Nadda, Prahlad Joshi, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu and Jitendra Singh.

The IGoM reviewed the evolving geopolitical situation and its implications across key sectors in India, emphasising the need for a coordinated, proactive and forward-looking response.

Rajnath Singh underscored the importance of vigilance and directed officials to adopt a medium- to long-term preparedness approach, maintain high-level coordination and ensure swift decision-making.

Presentations were made by seven Empowered Groups of Secretaries (EGoS), outlining sector-specific challenges and measures already initiated to address potential impacts.

The Defence Minister called for synergy in policy actions and time-bound implementation, while seeking inputs from ministers to strengthen India’s preparedness and resilience.

The group also stressed the importance of coordination with state governments and district administrations, along with timely public communication of policy measures.

It was decided that ministries and departments will share relevant updates and advisories through official channels to counter misinformation and ensure dissemination of accurate information.

In a post on X, Rajnath Singh said the government, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, remains committed to safeguarding citizens from any adverse impact arising from the situation.
