Poll Irregularities, Political Collusion Shape Local Body Results: Kavitha Targets Congress

Hyderabad, Feb 14 (TNT): In a sharp political attack following the recent municipal and panchayat elections, Telangana Jagruthi President K. Kavitha on Saturday alleged that the Congress party’s electoral victories were driven by widespread poll violations and systematic misuse of state machinery, raising serious questions over the conduct of the elections.

Speaking at a press conference at the Telangana Jagruthi office here, Kavitha, the daughter of BRS Supremo and former CM KCR,  accused the Election Commission of India of remaining a mute spectator despite complaints of irregularities.

She said the Congress benefited not from public endorsement alone, but from the absence of a strong political alternative and post-poll attempts to lure elected representatives in several municipalities.

Highlighting the emergence of alternative forces, Kavitha said that 40 candidates backed by Telangana Jagruthi and the All India Forward Bloc were elected, indicating a gradual shift in public mood towards issue-based politics.

Turning her fire on the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Kavitha,  said the party was selectively comparing current results with Congress’ earlier performance in opposition, instead of owning responsibility for its own governance record.

She further alleged a tacit political understanding between BRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party, particularly evident in North Telangana results.

On labour and coal belt politics, Kavitha asserted that only Telangana Jagruthi and the Hind Mazdoor Sabha were genuinely standing with Singareni workers.

She announced coordinated action in the upcoming Singareni elections and accused the Congress government of failing to open new coal mines, leading to a steep decline in employment at Singareni Collieries Company Limited.

Echoing these concerns, Forward Bloc state convener Ambati Jojireddy alleged that the BJP lacked a genuine majority in Karimnagar, claiming large-scale expenditure to influence outcomes.

HMS general secretary Riyaz Ahmed accused ruling party leaders of intimidation and coercion of victorious candidates.
