New Delhi, Mar 27 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening chaired a meeting with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors to review preparedness in light of the evolving situation in West Asia and its potential impact on India.
The meeting, held via video conferencing, focused on ensuring economic stability, energy security and smooth functioning of supply chains.
Emphasising vigilance and coordinated action, the Prime Minister said India’s experience in handling past global disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic, would help in addressing current challenges.
He underscored the importance of working together as “Team India”.
Modi said an Inter-Ministerial Group has been monitoring the situation daily since March 3 and taking timely decisions.
Highlighting the role of States, he called for constant communication with the Centre, swift implementation of decisions and strict action against hoarding and profiteering.
He also stressed the need to activate control rooms at State and district levels, ensure fertiliser availability ahead of the Kharif season and maintain administrative alertness to prevent disruptions.
Cautioning against misinformation, the Prime Minister said accurate and timely communication is essential to prevent panic, and advised vigilance against online frauds.
He further called for maintaining public confidence by ensuring adequate availability of essential commodities and urged States to set up helplines for citizens in West Asia.
The Prime Minister emphasised continued engagement with industry and MSMEs to maintain production and employment, and called for promoting alternative energy sources and strengthening domestic oil and gas exploration.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted steps taken by the government, including ensuring LPG availability and reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel.
Cabinet Secretary T.V. Somanathan made a presentation on the current situation and outlined measures for States.
Chief Ministers appreciated the Centre’s efforts and expressed confidence over the availability of fuel and essential commodities, while reaffirming their commitment to coordinated action.
The Prime Minister said the situation remains dynamic and reiterated that Centre and States will work together to effectively address emerging challenges.
