New Delhi, Mar 31 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the demise of former Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, describing it as an irreparable loss not only to Suriname but also to the global Indian diaspora.
In a post on X, Modi said he was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the passing of Santokhi, whom he described as a friend. He recalled their meetings and said Santokhi’s commitment to public service and efforts to strengthen India-Suriname relations were evident in their interactions.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Santokhi’s affinity for Indian culture, noting that he had won widespread appreciation for taking his oath in Sanskrit.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Suriname in this hour of grief. Om Shanti,” Modi added.
