PhonePe rolls out AI-powered natural language search feature

Bengaluru, Feb 24 (TNT ): PhonePe (Formerly PhonePe Private Limited) on Tuesday announced the launch of an AI-powered natural language search feature built using Microsoft Foundry, enabling users to perform payments, recharges, and other in-app tasks using simple voice or text commands.

In a release, the technology company said the feature replaces conventional menu-based navigation with intent-based routing, allowing users to directly access services by entering commands such as sending money to a contact, recharging FASTag, or checking gold prices.

The system automatically guides users to the relevant payment or service interface.

According to PhonePe, the new capability can interpret user intent beyond basic transactions, including purchases, payments, and customer support queries.

The feature uses a hybrid architecture combining on-device and cloud-based processing while ensuring that personal and transactional data remains secure within the PhonePe ecosystem.

PhonePe Founder, Whole-time Director and CTO Rahul Chari said the initiative is aimed at making digital payments more intuitive and accessible by leveraging artificial intelligence to better understand user needs.

Microsoft India and South Asia President Puneet Chandok said Microsoft Foundry provides secure and scalable AI capabilities that help partners like PhonePe build more intuitive digital payment experiences for millions of users.

The AI-powered search feature will be rolled out in phases across India and will be available through the PhonePe app’s search bar, help centre, and transaction history sections, the release added.
