NTR Trust to Organise Thalassemia Run in Hyderabad on May 10

Hyderabad, Apr 11 (TNT): NTR Memorial Trust Managing Trustee Nara Bhuvaneswari on Saturday announced that the NTR Memorial Trust will organise a Thalassemia Run in Hyderabad on May 10 to raise awareness about the genetic disorder and promote voluntary blood donation.

Addressing after launching T-Shirt and releasing poster for the event along with fromer Indian Women’s Cricket captain Mithali Raj, she said the event will feature 3K, 5K and 10K runs at Jalavihar, Necklace Road, and called upon donors, philanthropists and the public to participate in support of children suffering from thalassemia.

She thanked former Indian cricketer Mithali Raj, brand ambassador of the initiative, for attending the meet and supporting the cause.

Bhuvaneswari said thalassemia is a genetic disorder requiring children to undergo blood transfusions every 21 days, placing a heavy financial burden on families.

To support affected children, the Trust has established a Thalassemia Care Centre in Hyderabad, where 227 children have received free blood transfusions, along with medicines and food support.

She said the Trust plans to set up another free Thalassemia Care Centre in Vijayawada to expand support services.

Highlighting previous initiatives, she noted that awareness runs organised in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam have received strong public response, with thousands of participants.

Emphasising the need for greater awareness, she urged young people to undergo thalassemia screening before marriage and encouraged the public to register for the run through the official website or ticketing platforms.
