nspection of milk and water supply centers demanded

Kakinada, Feb 24 (TNT): The Disha committee, a Civic organization on Tuesday appealed to the District food safety officer and also the Municipal Health Officer to immediately inspect the Milk centers and also the drinking water supply centers in and around the Kakinada city and take steps to ensure supply of safe milk and drinking water to the people.

In the back drop of the death of five people and scores of people fallen ill and hospitalized due to chronic renal failure on account of adulterated milk supplied by a private vendor in neighbouring Rajahmundry which is rocking the entire state, the organization said it was essential to conduct a thorough inspection of the Milk, water, meat and other food stuffs supplied to people.

The committee headed by Nandamuri Vinod and members Swathi Lakshmi, Sony Floren  called on the Municipal health Officer and also the district Food safety officer and represented them over the need for urgent action on their demand.

They said the municipal water supplied in several localities was not up to the prescribed standards as people are complaining of getting turbid water.

Similarly the mushroom growth of RO plants taking advantage of non checking of quality regularly by the officials were supplying impure  and untreated water .

The committee members further alleged that in some hotels stale food including mutton and chicken were supplying due to complacency of the inspecting officials.

They requested the Health officer to improve the sanitation in various wards and take steps to ensure the hotels and restaurants besides the eat street stalls to sell only fresh foods and prevent recurrence of Rajahmundry massive renal failure episode in Kakinada district .
