No Nominations Filed for Telangana Rajya Sabha Polls; Parties Yet to Finalise Candidates

Hyderabad, Mar 4 (TNT): No nominations were filed till 3 pm on Wednesday for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said.

In a press release, the Returning Officer and Additional Secretary to the Telangana State Legislature reported that no candidate had submitted nomination papers during the day.

The deadline for filing nominations closes on Thursday.

The ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) are yet to finalise their candidates for the two seats.

TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said 16 aspirants are in the fray and that the list was submitted to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to Vikarabad.

Party sources indicated that the final names are likely to be announced late Wednesday night or on Thursday.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy left for Delhi to hold consultations on the candidates.

The BRS has also decided to field nominees despite not having a majority in the State Assembly.
