No Fuel Shortage in Telangana, Don’t Believe Rumours: Union Minister Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad, Mar 28 (TNT): Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday evening said “There is no shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas in Telangana”  and urged people not to panic or believe rumours circulating on social media.

Addressing a media conference after reviewing the situation with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealer associations hee, Reddy said concerns arose over the past week following reports of temporary fuel unavailability at some petrol pumps and brief closures in a few areas.

He clarified that such instances are not unique to Telangana or India but are linked to prevailing global conditions, including geopolitical tensions, noting that India depends on imports for petroleum products.

He said the Centre is taking proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted supply, including efforts to enhance domestic refining capacity while continuing imports to meet demand.

The Minister added that the government is in constant engagement with global partners to secure adequate supplies and is committed to procuring petroleum products at international market prices to avoid inconvenience to citizens.

Highlighting rising demand, he said the number of vehicles in the country is increasing steadily, while energy consumption patterns are also evolving.

Referring to the expansion of LPG usage, particularly under the Ujjwala scheme, he said more rural households, including poor families and small farmers, now have access to cleaner cooking fuel with subsidy support.

He also stressed the need to reduce fuel consumption, noting that the government is promoting electric vehicles and accelerating railway electrification to cut dependence on fossil fuels.

Cautioning against misinformation, Reddy said rumours on social media had triggered unnecessary rush at petrol pumps.

Reiterating official assurances, he said oil companies have confirmed that supplies of petrol, diesel and cooking gas remain stable across Telangana and the country.

He appealed to the public to remain calm and not fall for unverified information, stressing that collective cooperation is essential.
