NMDC crosses 50 MT mark, logs record 53 MT iron ore output in FY26

New Delhi, Apr 2 (TNT): State-run miner NMDC on Thursday said it has achieved its highest-ever annual production of iron ore at over 53 million tonnes (MT) in 2025–26, becoming the first company in India’s mining history to cross the 50 MT mark.

The company reported total production of 53.15 MT during FY26, registering a 21 per cent growth, while sales stood at 50.23 MT, up 13 per cent, marking its best-ever performance since inception.

In March 2026 alone, NMDC produced 5.35 MT and recorded sales of 5.90 MT, reflecting a growth of 51 per cent and 40 per cent respectively over the corresponding period last year.

The record output was driven by strong performance from its key iron ore mines at Kirandul and Bacheli in Chhattisgarh and Donimalai in Karnataka, all of which posted their highest-ever production levels.

The company said FY26 was also a year of expansion and diversification, with the inauguration of its international office in Dubai, operationalisation of its first coal mine in Jharkhand and commissioning of Deposit 4 at Bailadila in Chhattisgarh.

Chairman and Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee said crossing the 50 MT milestone was a moment of pride for both NMDC and the country’s mining sector.

“With rising steel demand driven by infrastructure growth, NMDC is stronger and more future-ready. The developments in FY26, including expansion of mining assets, have set the tone for accelerated growth in FY27,” he said.

NMDC said its high-grade iron ore continues to support leading domestic steel producers and remains critical to India’s infrastructure development and manufacturing growth.

With demand expected to rise alongside the country’s economic expansion, the company said it is augmenting its production capacities to meet future requirements and contribute to sustained growth.
