NeuEN wins 10KTPA Green Hydrogen Contract from Numaligarh Refinery

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (TNT): NeuEN Green Energy Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, on Wednesday said it has secured a contract to supply 10,000 tonnes per annum (10 KTPA) of green hydrogen to Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL).

Under the agreement, NeuEN will set up a green hydrogen production facility at NRL’s refinery in Assam, backed by a long-term offtake arrangement.

The project is expected to commence commercial operations in 2028, the company said in a release.

The facility will integrate renewable energy with advanced storage solutions to ensure round-the-clock supply, supporting the refinery’s decarbonisation efforts.

BPCL Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Khanna said the project marks a key milestone in the company’s transition towards a future-ready energy portfolio and strengthens its presence in the green hydrogen value chain.

Sembcorp’s Renewables CEO Vipul Tuli said the project aligns with India’s green hydrogen ambitions and highlights the importance of long-term offtake agreements in enabling large-scale deployment.

NeuEN Chairman Shelly Abraham said the collaboration combines BPCL’s domestic market strength with Sembcorp’s global renewable energy expertise to deliver low-carbon solutions for industrial use.

Sembcorp currently has a renewable energy portfolio of 7.6 GW in India and is focusing on scaling green hydrogen and its derivatives as part of its decarbonisation strategy.
