Hyderabad, Mar 15 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday evening said the state government has accorded top priority to the welfare and development of the Muslim community and stressed the need for communal harmony for the country’s progress.

Participating in the Iftar party hosted by the state government for the Muslim community here, Revanth Reddy described Ramzan as a sacred month of spiritual purification and unity.
He cautioned that certain political forces were trying to create divisions among religious communities and urged people not to fall prey to such attempts.
He emphasised the importance of brotherhood and communal harmony, saying all religions must remain united to take the country and the state forward.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to minority welfare, the Chief Minister said several leaders from the Muslim community had been given key positions, including the appointment of Mohammed Azharuddin as a minister and senior leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir as a government adviser, besides corporation posts to eight minority leaders.
He also noted that Indian cricketer Mohammed Siraj had been appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in recognition of his achievements, while world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen was awarded a cash reward of Rs 2 crore.
The Chief Minister said the government has been allocating substantial funds for minority welfare programmes and reiterated its commitment to ensuring better education and employment opportunities for the community.
Referring to earlier initiatives, he said the four per cent reservation for minorities introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in the undivided Andhra Pradesh had helped many students and youth access education and employment.
“This is your government and I am your brother. We seek your blessings,” he said, appealing to the Muslim community to support the government’s efforts to develop Telangana as the number one state in the country.
The Chief Minister called upon people of all faiths to remain united and work together for the state’s development.
