Hyderabad, Feb 14 (TNT): BRS wokign President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday said the recent municipal election results have exposed the gap between Congress claims and ground reality, with the ruling party failing to meet its own expectations.
Speaking to the media, KTR said Congress leaders were visibly dissatisfied with the outcome, while the BRS cadre put up a strong fight across the state.
He noted that BRS won 17 municipalities outright and remains well placed in several hung councils, despite expecting over 30 wins.
Questioning the BJP’s claims of improved performance, KTR said the Bharatiya Janata Party secured fewer votes and wards than in the past and failed to win a single municipality despite high-profile campaigning.
KTR stressed that local body elections are driven by local issues and alleged that money power played a major role, accusing the Indian National Congress of spending heavily.
He also criticised the Congress government for confusion over rules related to ex-officio members and accused it of reviving the Formula E issue for political mileage.
“There is no substance in the case, and repeated inquiries do not worry us,” he said.
Raising questions over Congress’ past performance in local polls, KTR said voters are closely watching the contrast between Congress claims and its actual electoral record, asserting that the municipal results reaffirm the BRS’s strength at the grassroots.
