Mixed Reactions to Union Budget in Kakinada: BJP Welcomes, CPI Raises Objections

Kakinada, Feb 1(TNT): The Union Budget presented in Parliament on Sunday drew mixed reactions from political parties in Kakinada district.

BJP district leaders Duvvuri Subrahmanyam, Pendem Sridevi, Datla Sahiti Varma and Bikkina Visweswerarao welcomed the Budget, describing it as a step towards achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.

They said the Budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, demonstrated the Centre’s commitment to accelerated and inclusive development.

The leaders pointed out that the fiscal deficit had been reduced by 0.1 percentage point compared to last year and appreciated the government’s target of bringing it down to 4.3 per cent in 2026–27. They also noted efforts to control inflation and narrow the trade deficit.

Meanwhile, CPI leader Thatipaka Madhu criticised the Centre for ignoring key development projects in Andhra Pradesh.

In a statement, he alleged that the Budget made no allocations for the Polavaram project and rehabilitation of displaced families.

He also pointed to the absence of funds for the coastal corridor, Kotipalli railway line, Konaseema railway line and captive mines for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, expressing disappointment among the people of the region.
