Kuppam constituency in AP to be developed as Energy Self-Sufficient; plans underway: APSPDCL  CMD

Tirupati, Feb 28 (TNT): The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated steps to transform Kuppam constituency in Chittoor district, represented by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, into an energy self-sufficient constituency with a planned 250 MW of renewable power generation.

APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Shivashankar Lotheti, said efforts are being made in line with the Chief Minister’s vision to meet the entire electricity demand of Kuppam through locally generated renewable energy.

Speaking during a video conference held on Saturday to review power sector development works in the constituency, he said the current power demand in Kuppam stands at around 250 MW. Plans have been prepared and are being implemented to generate the required electricity within the constituency using renewable energy sources.

He said works related to feeder-level solarisation for generation of 141 MW are progressing at a fast pace. In addition, rooftop solar systems with a capacity of 4.36 MW are being installed for SC/ST domestic consumers.

The CMD further stated that tenders are being initiated for a 50 MW battery energy storage system.

Proposals have also been prepared to install rooftop solar systems for about 49,000 households with an additional capacity of 40 MW, he said.

He directed officials and contractors to complete the works by the end of this year so that 250 MW of renewable energy can be generated within the constituency.

He also instructed that land acquisition for construction of a Transco substation in Kuppam be expedited and asked officials to coordinate with local authorities to ensure timely completion of the projects.

Senior officials of the power utilities and representatives of concerned agencies participated in the review meeting.
