Jagtial (Telangana), Mar 25 (TNT) :In a significant political development, Senior Congress leader and former Minister T. Jeevan Reddy on Wednesday resigned from Indian National Congress, ending his nearly four-decade long association with the party.
Reddy said he has sent his resignation letter to AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, stepping down from both the party and its primary membership, citing growing indiscipline and internal conflicts in the Jagtial unit.
His exit comes despite efforts by senior party leaders, including IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, TPCC President B Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant and Government Whip Adi Srinivas, who had recently met him in Jagtial to persuade him to reconsider his decision.
Announcing his resignation at a meeting with supporters, Reddy alleged that certain leaders were attempting to sideline him and erase his political identity, claiming that a “conspiracy” was underway to weaken his position in the district.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction over recent developments, he said internal issues within the party remained unresolved despite raising concerns with the leadership.
Stating that political struggles were not new to him, Reddy said he had previously taken on leaders like N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrashekar Rao, and was now prepared for a political battle against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
He also revealed that he had urged the party leadership to prevent leaders who defected from other parties from interfering in internal affairs, but was advised to remain patient.
Questioning how long he should wait, Reddy said the lack of resolution ultimately led to his decision to quit.
He said he would decide his future political course after consulting his supporters.
In his letter to the AICC President , he expressed deep dissatisfaction over the functioning of the party at the district level.
He alleged that despite being given key posts, tickets, and responsibilities, several leaders have been acting against party ideology and discipline.
Reddy pointed out in his letter that the party’s core values — often invoked through slogans like “Jai Samvidhan,” “Jai Bhim,” and “Jai Bapu” — are not being followed in practice. Instead, factionalism and personal agendas have taken precedence, weakening the party’s structure.
He also raised concerns about the conduct of certain leaders who joined the Congress from other parties, stating that their actions have created confusion among party cadre and affected grassroots coordination.
Stating that repeated efforts to correct the situation had failed, Jeevan Reddy conveyed his decision to resign from the party, urging the high command to take corrective measures to restore discipline and credibility in Telangana.
His resignation comes as a setback to the Congress in Jagtial district, at a time when the party is seeking to consolidate its position in the state.
