Hyderabad, Feb 19 (TNT): A delegation from the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA), Switzerland, met the Telangana Chief Secretary at the State Secretariat here on Thursday to discuss seed quality assurance and related issues.
The delegation, comprising ISTA Executive Committee members and representatives from 11 countries including the United States, Italy, France, the Philippines, Poland, Argentina, Uruguay and Switzerland, is in Hyderabad for the ISTA Executive Meeting 2026 being held from Feb. 15 to 21.
The committee is led by ISTA Secretariat staff member Keshavulu Kumusoth (India).
Discussions focused on standardisation of seed testing protocols and strengthening global seed quality standards to support international trade and supply chains.
Officials said hosting the ISTA Executive Meeting is expected to enhance India’s global visibility in the seed sector, boost trade and investment and reinforce the country’s position in the international seed industry.
State officials highlighted Telangana’s ambition to position itself as a global seed production and export hub.
Citing favourable agro-climatic conditions, strong scientific infrastructure, skilled seed growers and supportive policies, they said the state aims to further consolidate its reputation as the “seed capital” of India and emerge as a global seed hub by 2047.
