ISB Hosts PPD 2026, Calls for Integrated Action to Strengthen India’s Food Systems

Hyderabad, Mar 20 (TNT): The Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) on Friday launched the three-day Public Policy Dialogues (PPD) 2026, bringing together farmers, women leaders, policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders to deliberate on strengthening India’s food systems.

The national conference aims to address pressing challenges such as declining soil health, farmer distress, climate change, and the dual burden of hunger and obesity, while emphasising the need for integrated policy action rather than incremental measures.

Delivering the keynote address, Chairman of the Maharashtra State Agricultural Price Commission Pasha Patel stressed that sustainability must translate into action on the ground. He cautioned that without reducing carbon emissions and increasing green cover, farmers may not be able to sustain food production.

ISB Dean Prof. Madan Pillutla, in his opening remarks, said the institution continues to focus on addressing India’s challenges with global academic rigour while drawing on local insights. He highlighted the need to tackle environmental degradation and nutritional imbalances within the food system.

Prof. Ashwini Chhatre, Executive Director, BIPP, and Conference Chair, said India’s food system is under significant stress and requires integrated thinking across culture, markets, and policy. He said the dialogue aims to bring together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including those directly affected by policy outcomes.

Over the three-day event, PPD 2026 will feature panel discussions, roundtables, a startup showcase, a women’s collectives showcase, and a research and innovation exhibition, with a focus on generating actionable policy recommendations for a more resilient and cohesive food system in India.
