Tirumala, Feb 10 (TNT): The bio-gas plant being set up by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Tirumala is expected to become operational by May this year, with construction work scheduled for completion by March, said B R Naidu, Chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), here on Tuesday.
After inspecting the newly constructed IOCL gas plant at Kakulamanuthippa, the Chairman told reporters that the foundation stone for the project was laid about five months ago.
The plant has a production capacity of 40 tonnes of bio-gas per day, which is expected to help TTD save nearly ₹1.52 crore annually, he said.
He said the project would play a key role in effective waste management by recycling organic waste, thereby preventing the accumulation of garbage at the Tirumala dumping yard.
Earlier, Naidu interacted with devotees from various states and gathered feedback on the pilgrim-friendly amenities being provided by TTD.
He later inspected the Sudarshan Choultries in Tirumala and instructed officials to take immediate steps to prevent water leakage in the rooms.
He said a decision on modernization or reconstruction of the building would be taken after consultations with officials.
Later in the day, the TTD Chairman, along with Srivari Sevaks, served Annaprasadam to devotees at the food counter near Sudarshan Choultries.
Devotees expressed satisfaction over the taste and quality of the food. Naidu also shared tea with devotees at a nearby tea stall.
Deputy Executive Officers Somannarayana and Bhaskar, VGO Surendra, Health Officer Dr. Madhusudhan and other officials were present.
