Hyderabad, Apr 10 (TNT): Former NITI Aayog CEO and India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant on Friday said India’s youth will play a pivotal role in transforming the country into a $30 trillion economy and urged young public policy graduates to actively contribute to nation-building, innovation and governance.
Delivering the keynote address at the fourth graduation ceremony of the Kautilya School of Public Policy (KSPP) held at GITAM Deemed to be University here, Kant called upon students to engage meaningfully in public policy and governance with integrity and innovation.
Stressing the importance of grassroots governance, he said students should work closely with states and districts, which form the backbone of India’s federal structure.
He said India must emerge as a global manufacturing hub by expanding the manufacturing sector and reducing the cost of doing business.
He said strengthening “Jan Vishwas” or public trust and improving business conditions are essential for boosting exports and enhancing India’s global competitiveness.
Kant also highlighted the need to improve agricultural productivity, noting that nearly 46 per cent of India’s population depends on agriculture, and urged graduates to benchmark India’s agricultural and industrial performance against global standards.
Calling for a stronger innovation ecosystem, he said research and development, startup promotion and greater access to risk capital are crucial for India’s long-term growth.
Referring to India’s strides in infrastructure, renewable energy and digital public infrastructure, Kant said the country has become a global leader in digital payments and public service delivery, including large-scale vaccination programmes.
He added that digital public infrastructure has transformative potential in sectors such as artificial intelligence, healthcare and nutrition.
Describing the present period as “India’s decade,” he urged graduates to remain optimistic, innovative and committed to public service.
A total of 35 students were conferred degrees during the ceremony, along with merit medals for academic excellence.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including M. Sri Bharat, President of GITAM, and Syed Akbaruddin.
