Dubai, Mar 7 (TNT): The semi-final clash between India national cricket team and England national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 created history in digital broadcasting, with JioHotstar recording a record 65.2 million peak concurrent viewers, the highest ever for a live event on any digital platform globally.
The high-voltage encounter on March 5 also became the most streamed T20 International match, generating 619 million views on the platform.
The thrilling contest, which produced a combined 0, drew massive attention from cricket fans across India and worldwide.
The peak concurrency surpassed the previous global record of 65 million viewers set in November 2024 by another international streaming platform through aggregated viewership from multiple markets.
However, the latest record achieved by JioHotstar was driven entirely by viewers from a single market, underlining the immense scale of cricket viewership in India.
Across television and digital platforms, the semi-final registered a combined reach of more than 320 million viewers, while total watch-time exceeded 23 billion minutes, making it the most-watched T20 International match ever.
Chairman of the International Cricket Council, Jay Shah, said the numbers reflected the deep passion for cricket among fans.
“It is incredibly heartening to see the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup bringing together hundreds of millions of cricket fans in India. The remarkable viewership during the India–England semi-final highlights the growing reach of the sport,” he said.
Uday Shankar, Vice-Chairman of JioStar, said the achievement showcased the technological strength of the platform in delivering large-scale live sports streaming.
The 619 million views recorded during the match surpassed the 533 million views registered during the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, setting a new benchmark for digital sports viewership.
Meanwhile, India national cricket team will take on New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
