India bats for collective responsibility in maritime order at Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam: President Murmu

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Feb 18 (TNT): President Droupadi Murmu on wednesday said that India believes a sound maritime order must be anchored in collective responsibility and cooperative action among like-minded partners, as she witnessed the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Navies of more than 70 countries are participating in the Fleet Review.

Addressing the gathering, the President said the IFR reflects unity, trust and respect among nations for maritime traditions.

Referring to the theme “United Through Oceans,” she said ships bearing different flags and sailors from diverse countries exemplify the spirit of togetherness and send a positive message of collective resolve to the global community.

Murmu said India’s approach to international relations, including the maritime domain, is guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family.

Global security and growth, sustainability and stability are built through partnerships, she said, adding that this spirit of partnership forms the bedrock of an enduring global order.

“Therefore, India believes that a sound maritime order is based on collective responsibility and cooperative action among like-minded partners,” she said, noting that the Fleet Review also advances India’s vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.

Highlighting the role of the Indian Navy, the President said it remains vigilant in safeguarding India’s maritime interests and contributing to stability across the wider maritime commons.

She described the Navy as a credible instrument of deterrence and defence against threats at sea and said it is often the first responder during humanitarian crises and natural disasters.

She also appreciated officers and sailors from friendly foreign navies, stating that their discipline, dedication and competence form the foundation of collective maritime security.

Their presence at the Fleet Review has strengthened bonds of trust and reaffirmed the shared commitment to peace, stability and cooperation at sea, she added.

Expressing confidence in continued collaboration, the President said the participating navies would collectively help ensure that the oceans thrive as gateways for growth, prosperity and the overall well-being of the global community.
