Colombo , Feb 15 (TNT): India delivered a commanding all-round performance to crush Pakistan by 61 runs in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash held here on Sunday, sealing a place in the Super 8s.
Defending 175 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, India’s bowlers rose to the occasion as Pakistan faltered in the chase.
Asked to get 176, the Pakistan batting line-up never truly settled and eventually folded for 114 under mounting pressure.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav marshalled his resources smartly, rotating his bowlers to keep the pressure intact. The pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah delivered crucial blows, while the spinners ensured there was no escape route for Pakistan’s middle order.
Pakistan’s top order, featuring the experienced Babar Azam, failed to anchor the innings, and once wickets began to tumble, the chase unraveled quickly.
Earlier, India had posted 175, riding on a blazing knock from Ishan Kishan, which proved more than enough on a surface offering assistance to bowlers.
With this emphatic win, India confirmed their berth in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
The West Indies cricket team had earlier secured qualification to the Super 8s, setting the stage for an exciting next phase of the competition.
