Hyderabad, Apr 6 (TNT): GMR Sports, in partnership with Rugby India, on Monday announced that the second edition of the Rugby Premier League (RPL) will be held at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from June 16 to 28, 2026.
The league, played in the Rugby 7s format, returns after a successful inaugural edition in Mumbai and will feature six franchises, bringing together leading Indian and international players.
Officials said the decision to host the tournament in Hyderabad aligns with efforts to develop world-class sporting infrastructure, following a recent MoU between GMR Sports and the Government of Telangana to build a Satellite Sports City.
Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said the event reinforces Hyderabad’s emergence as a global sporting destination and will boost tourism and the sports economy.
Rahul Bose said the league aims to deliver an enhanced fan experience and higher quality competition, while continuing to strengthen rugby’s growth in India.
GMR Sports CEO Satyam Trivedi said Hyderabad’s infrastructure, connectivity and strong fan base make it an ideal venue for the league.
Sports Authority of Telangana Vice Chairman and Managing Director A. Sonibala Devi said hosting the league will boost the state’s high-performance ecosystem and provide exposure to emerging talent.
The organisers said the tournament is expected to deliver high-quality rugby action while contributing to the sport’s development in India.
