Hyderabad to Be Developed as Global Sports Hub: CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, Apr 5 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday evening said Hyderabad will be developed as a global sports hub with infrastructure capable of hosting events on the scale of the Olympics.

Speaking at a Sports Hub Board meeting held at The Leela Hotel here, Reddy said the government aims to create world-class sporting facilities surpassing international standards.

The Chief Minister said Gachibowli Stadium will be developed into one of the finest sporting venues in the world, and announced that the foundation stone for its redevelopment will be laid on June 2.

He directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan before the launch and said the project will include world-class facilities such as a helipad to enable direct travel for sportspersons from the airport.

Reddy said a sustainable financial model will be prepared to ensure long-term viability of the stadium and noted that architects have already been appointed for the project.

He added that the board will be given full freedom in planning and execution, with the broader objective of promoting sports across Telangana.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to attract IT professionals and urban audiences by enhancing spectator facilities, including installation of large viewing screens and related amenities.

The meeting was attended by board members including Upasana Konidela, Kavya Maran, Sanjiv Goenka, C. Shashidhar, Jayesh Ranjan and Sports MD Sony Bala Devi.
