Hyderabad, Jan 31 (TNT) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded the immediate cancellation of Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) fees and free implementation of the scheme, alleging that both the previous BRS government and the present Congress government have cheated lakhs of people in Telangana.
Addressing a media conference at the BJP Telangana state office here, BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao said the party has filed nominations in 100 per cent of seats across the state.
He stated that BJP is contesting all 2,996 wards and divisions in 116 municipalities and six municipal corporations, and B-Forms have already been issued to candidates.
He said BJP decided to contest every seat in view of the growing public trust shown towards the party in recent MP, MLC and local body elections.
Ramchander Rao accused BRS and Congress of following the same path and continuing past scams while betraying public confidence.
He said the LRS introduced by the previous BRS government had caused severe hardship to people, with fees ranging from ₹1,000 for small plots to ₹10,000 for large plots.
Although about 25.67 lakh applications were received and the government collected nearly ₹250 crore, only around 10 per cent of applicants actually benefited, he alleged.
He said the scheme was later stalled due to legal complications and pending dues, and the Congress government that came to power also failed to resolve the issue, allowing only partial fee remittances without implementing regularisation.
Even today, he said, more than 20 lakh LRS applications remain undisposed.
Citing administrative failure, Ramchander Rao said that in the HMDA area, only about 8,000 applications were cleared out of 3.6 lakh.
In districts such as Warangal, Suryapet, Khammam and areas like Pedda Amberpet, the number of proceedings issued was disproportionately low compared to applications received, exposing the inefficiency of the Congress government.
The BJP leader demanded that the state government immediately cancel LRS fees, refund the amounts collected from the public and resolve all pending applications without delay.
He also called for scrapping the 10 per cent market value charge and implementing LRS free of cost to ensure justice to poor and middle-class families.
Rao further alleged that governance in municipalities across Telangana had collapsed under Congress rule.
He claimed that incidents such as firing, rapes, drug abuse and thefts were occurring daily, while basic civic infrastructure remained inadequate even in smaller towns and rural areas. Municipalities, he said, were surviving mainly on central government funds due to the failure of the state administration.
Rejecting claims that BJP is weak in certain regions, he said the party had earlier won municipal chairman and vice-chairman posts in places like Nalgonda and Bhongir and remained competitive in Khammam district.
He asserted that BJP would continue to strengthen across Telangana, while BRS and Congress had become “sinking ships” due to their misgovernance and betrayal of public trust.
BJP leaders, including state vice-president Jayasri, senior leader Antony and others, were present at the press conference.
