Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), Feb 22 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday described ‘Gramin Dak Sevaks as one of the most vital pillars of the country’s logistics network’ and asserted that their role cannot be replaced despite rapid advancements in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Addressing the Gramin Dak Sevak Conference here in the presence of Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Naidu said the services rendered by Dak Sevaks from Kashmir to Kanyakumari are commendable and unmatched.
The CM noted that India has over 1.64 lakh post offices, nearly 90 per cent of which are located in rural areas, supported by around 2.7 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks.
In Andhra Pradesh alone, more than 9,100 post offices are functioning with the support of over 17,000 Dak Sevaks, he said.
Naidu pointed out that nearly 33 per cent of financial assistance under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system is delivered through Dak Sevaks, underlining their critical role in ensuring last-mile connectivity.
He described them as the backbone for achieving the goals of “Viksit Bharat” and “Swarna Andhra.”
The Chief Minister said Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has been working towards enhancing the dignity and recognition of Dak Sevaks.
Recalling his association with the late Madhavrao Scindia, he mentioned that an area in Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam is named after him and invited the Union Minister to visit it.
Stating that Dak Sevaks continue to discharge their duties with a human touch despite technological advancements, Naidu welcomed the introduction of a dress code for them.
He urged the Centre to consider providing electric bicycles to Gramin Dak Sevaks to reduce pollution and improve efficiency in service delivery.
The Chief Minister further said the State is witnessing rapid development under a double-engine government, with welfare schemes being effectively implemented over the past 20 months.
He added that governance reforms are being carried out to ensure delivery of government services at citizens’ doorsteps through WhatsApp Governance.
