Governor Shukla Inaugurates All India Police Football Championship in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday said sports play a vital role in promoting discipline, personality development and physical fitness, especially for police personnel.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 74th B.N. Mullick All India Police Football Championship 2025–26 held at Gachibowli Stadium here, Shukla said sports are essential for police personnel to remain physically fit and mentally agile to meet the demands of their duties.

He also expressed hope for increased participation of women police personnel in such events, highlighting the importance of inclusivity.

Recalling his tenure as Sports Minister in Uttar Pradesh, he appreciated the participation of police teams from across the country, calling the championship a platform for camaraderie and healthy competition.

He also lauded Telangana’s efforts in promoting sports through initiatives such as the Young India Sports University and urged participants to uphold sportsmanship, fairness and integrity.

Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy said hosting the prestigious championship in Hyderabad was a matter of pride and noted that sports foster qualities such as teamwork, endurance and quick decision-making, which are essential in policing.

He described the event as a celebration of unity and cooperation among police forces across the country and urged players to compete with honesty and discipline.

Inspector General of Police (Sports) Gajarao Bhupal said matches will be conducted at five venues in the city and highlighted Telangana’s strong football legacy.

The event began with a ceremonial march-past by participating teams, followed by the inaugural match, which was witnessed by the Governor and senior officials.

Several senior police officers, including Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh and RBVRR Telangana Police Academy Director Abhilasha Bisht, were present.
