Goa, Feb 16 (TNT): The coastal city of Goa transformed into a high-energy motorsport hub as Round 4 of the Indian Racing Festival concluded with thrilling action on the street circuit, underlining the growing popularity of motorsport in the country.
Goa Aces JA Racing emerged victorious in the relay-format race as Raoul Hyman and Fabienne Wohlwend combined to clock 42:11.779.
The duo delivered a composed performance in front of packed stands and an enthusiastic local crowd.
Actor and team owner Naga Chaitanya, who owns Hyderabad Black Birds, said the event reflected the rising support for motorsport in India.
“It’s wonderful to see this kind of support for a sport that is still growing in India. Organising a street race like this within a city requires tremendous effort and passion. Motorsport may be young in India, but with patience and continued support, it has the potential to grow into something truly significant,” he said.
Team owners John Abraham (Goa Aces JA Racing), Kichcha Sudeep (Kichcha’s Kings Bengaluru), Naga Chaitanya (Hyderabad Black Birds) and Sourav Ganguly (Kolkata Royal Tigers) were present at the venue.
Hyman laid the foundation for the win with a strong opening stint, registering the fastest lap of 53.527 seconds and building a sizeable lead before handing over during the mandatory driver swap window.
However, a safety car period erased the advantage, putting pressure on Wohlwend during the restart. The Liechtenstein driver held her nerve, defended her position and pulled away to secure the win, becoming only the second female race winner in the championship’s history.
Kichcha’s Kings Bengaluru (Sachel Rotge and Ruhaan Alva) finished second with a time of 42:12.759, while Speed Demons Delhi (Alister Yoong and Caitlin Wood) took third place in 42:16.601.
Pole-sitters Kolkata Royal Tigers retired early due to a wheel issue.
The victory marked Goa Aces JA Racing’s 10th win in the Indian Racing Festival. After Round 4, Goa Aces JA Racing lead the standings with 145 points, followed closely by Speed Demons Delhi with 144 points.
