Hyderabad, Feb 24 (TNT): In a major development, four very senior leaders of the banned CPI (Maoist), including a Politburo Member and a Central Committee Member, surrendered and joined the mainstream before Telangana Director General of Police here on Tuesday, dealing a significant blow to the outlawed organisation.
Those who surrendered include Politburo Member and Central Committee Member Tippiri Thirupati alias Devuji alias Kumma Dada (62), Central Committee Member Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram (76), Telangana State Committee Secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar alias Jagan (47) and State Committee Member Nune Narsimha Reddy alias Ganganna alias Sannu Dada (62).
They had spent between 28 and 46 years underground in Maoist activities.
According to DGP B Shivadhar Reddy, Devuji and Sangram were among the highest-ranking leaders in the organisation, while Damodar headed the Telangana State Committee and Ganganna served as a State Committee Member in the armed wing.
Their return has effectively rendered the Telangana State Committee defunct and weakened the apex leadership structure of the outfit, the DGP said..
He said the leaders decided to surrender following the Telangana Government’s appeal to Maoist cadres to renounce violence and rejoin the mainstream, as well as due to ideological differences, internal conflicts, and declining organisational strength.
Under the State’s rehabilitation policy, the four leaders were eligible for a combined reward of ₹90 lakh, which has been disbursed to them to support their reintegration into society, he said.
The DGP described the surrenders as a major setback to CPI (Maoist), noting that hundreds of underground cadres have returned to the mainstream in recent years, reflecting the steady decline of the organisation.
The DGP reiterated the government’s appeal to remaining Maoist cadres to lay down arms and avail rehabilitation benefits to lead a peaceful and dignified life.
