Four Top Maoist Leaders Surrender; 591 Cadres Joined Mainstream in Telangana Since 2024

Hyderabad, Feb 24 (TNT): In a major setback to the banned CPI (Maoist), four senior leaders, including a Politburo Member and a Central Committee Member, surrendered before the Telangana Police and joined the mainstream on Tuesday.

With this, a total of 591 Maoist cadres have surrendered between 2024 and 2026, including four Central Committee Members, 16 State Committee Members, and hundreds of armed cadres, indicating a steady decline of the organization, according to Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy.

In 2026 alone, 35 cadres have surrendered so far, he said.

He said the number of underground Maoist cadres native to Telangana has dropped sharply from 124 in 2023 to just 11 at present, and reiterated their appeal to the remaining cadres to lay down arms and avail rehabilitation benefits.

Those who surrendered today were Politburo Member and Central Committee Member Tippiri Thirupati alias Devuji alias Kumma Dada, Central Committee Member Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram, Telangana State Committee Secretary Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar alias Jagan, and State Committee Member Nune Narsimha Reddy alias Ganganna alias Sannu Dada.

They had spent between 28 and 46 years underground.

The DGP  said the surrender of the senior leaders has severely weakened the organisation, with the Telangana State Committee becoming defunct following the return of its secretary Damodar.

The leaders reportedly decided to surrender due to ideological differences, internal conflicts, and in response to the State Government’s appeal to Maoist cadres to rejoin the mainstream, he said.

Under the rehabilitation policy, the four leaders were eligible for a total reward of ₹90 lakh, which has been disbursed to support their reintegration, he added.\
