Tirupati, Feb 12 (TNT): CPI leader K. Narayana, on Thursday cautioned political parties against politicising the Tirumala laddu controversy, describing such attempts as inappropriate and unacceptable.
In a strong political statement, Narayana criticised both the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and opposition parties for dragging the sensitive issue into political debates for electoral mileage.
He said faith and religion should not be used as tools for political gains under any circumstances.
The CPI leader stated that if adulteration of the laddu had indeed taken place, it was a grave issue and those responsible must be punished without exception.
He stressed that officials found guilty, including former bureaucrats, should not be spared.
Accusing political parties of exploiting the sentiments of devotees, Narayana urged leaders to exercise restraint and avoid irresponsible public statements.
“Millions of devotees are emotionally attached to Tirumala. Political fights should not be fought at the cost of their faith,” he said, adding, “If you want to fight politically, do so, but do not drag God into it.”
Pointing out that the Supreme Court of India is already examining the issue, Narayana advised political leaders to refrain from further commentary until the investigation is completed.
He called for an immediate end to what he termed “unnecessary political debates” and demanded that the sentiments and beliefs of devotees be respected and safeguarded.
