New Delhi, Feb 27 (TNT): The Rouse Avenue Special Court on Friday granted a clean chit to Telangana Jagruthi president and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha in the Delhi excise policy case, dismissing all charges filed against her by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CBI Special Judge Jitender Singh held that there was no evidence to establish wrongdoing by Kavitha or the other 23 accused in the case.
The court observed that the allegations were not supported by substantive proof and concluded that no scam was made out in the formulation or implementation of the liquor policy.
At Hyderabad Addressing reporters after the judgment, Kavitha, who was earlier arrested in connection with the case, termed the verdict a “complete vindication” of her stand.
She said the court had found even the core arguments of the prosecution to be baseless.
“From day one, I maintained that this was a false case and that I would come out clean. The verdict has proved the truth beyond doubt,” she said.
At the same time, she said the judgment could not undo the personal hardship she and her family had faced over the past several months.
She alleged that she was subjected to humiliation and mental trauma during the course of the case.
Kavitha also rejected attempts to link the Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) defeat in the Assembly elections to the excise policy case.
She said the party’s electoral setback was due to internal shortcomings and not because of the case against her.
