Congress Must Be Taught a Lesson in Municipal Polls in Telangana : BRS

Vemulawada/Sircilla, Feb 6 (TNT): BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday stepped up his attack on both the ruling Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  while campaigning for the ongoing municipal elections in Telangana.

Addressing public meetings in Vemulawada and Sircilla, KTR said the municipal polls were an opportunity for voters to “teach the Congress a lesson” for what he described as its failure to honour pre-poll promises, including the six guarantees.

He alleged that the Congress government had betrayed public trust through “anti-people policies” and deceptive assurances.

KTR urged voters to support the BRS by voting for the car symbol on Feb 11, warning that allowing the Congress to go unchecked would only embolden what he termed corruption, irregularities and administrative failures.

Taking aim at the BJP, KTR remarked that voting for the party was equivalent to wasting one’s vote, accusing it of remaining politically inactive between elections and surfacing only during polls by exploiting caste and religious sentiments.

He also criticised Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, alleging that he had failed to secure any tangible benefits for the erstwhile Karimnagar district or Telangana, including the long-pending mega powerloom cluster for Sircilla’s weavers.

Turning his focus to the state government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, KTR alleged that key promises such as financial assistance to women, enhanced pensions and support to various sections of society had not been implemented.

He further claimed that the cancellation of Batukamma saree production in Sircilla had adversely affected the livelihoods of weavers.

KTR also warned that proposals to abolish Sircilla district posed a threat to its future, asserting that a vote for Congress would endanger the district’s existence.

He accused the government of announcing large budget allocations for minorities, SCs, STs and BCs without releasing funds on the ground.

Concluding his campaign address, KTR appealed to voters not to be influenced by what he alleged was the distribution of cash by the Congress ahead of the polls and called for a decisive mandate in favour of the BRS in the municipal elections.
