New Delhi, Feb 11 (TNT) :The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has announced its solidarity with the nationwide strike (Bharat Bandh) called on Thursday by a joint platform of 10 Central Trade Unions, with the support of various farmers’ organisations.
In a communication issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday, all Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) have been urged to extend full support to the strike and stand with workers and farmers across the country.
The Congress said the bandh is being organised in protest against the BJP-led Central government’s labour reforms and economic policies, which, it alleged, have weakened workers’ rights.
The party claimed that the new labour codes have reduced job security, diluted statutory safeguards, and increased employer flexibility in hiring and firing, adversely affecting the interests of the working class.
The letter also noted that farmers’ organisations have extended their support to the strike, reflecting growing concern over the impact of these policies on livelihoods and economic justice.
Calling the bandh a democratic struggle, the Congress leadership appealed to its state units to firmly stand with workers and farmers in their fight for justice, dignity, and fair economic policies.
