Centre Reviews Fuel Supply, Asserts No LPG Shortage; Urges States to Curb Rumours

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (TNT): Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary Neeraj Mittal on Wednesday reviewed the availability and supply of LPG, natural gas and petroleum products across the country in a video conference with Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories.

The meeting assessed production, distribution and logistics to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential fuels, including LPG, petrol and diesel.

Mittal stressed the need to maintain adequate stock levels and ensure timely distribution, especially in view of fluctuating demand and regional requirements.

He directed officials to implement strict rumour-control measures, reiterating that there is no shortage of LPG and cautioning against panic booking.

He said LPG refill booking timelines remain unchanged at 25 days for urban areas and 45 days for rural areas.

The Secretary also highlighted the benefits of expanding the gas network, noting that Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is more economical and convenient for households, and urged states to promote its adoption.

Chief Secretaries were instructed to closely monitor supply and activate State Control Centres for real-time coordination with oil marketing companies and district administrations to prevent hoarding and address local issues.

Senior officials, including Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra, participated in the meeting.
