BJP’s Rising Urban Footprint Signals Shifting Political Equations in Telangana: State Chief

Hyderabad, Feb 16 (TNT): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President N.Ramchander Rao on Monday asserted that the party’s improved performance in the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections reflects a significant political shift in the state’s urban landscape.

Addressing a press conference here, Rao said the BJP emerged as the single largest party in over 15 municipalities and increased its overall tally from 204 seats in 2020 to 336 seats in the latest civic polls.

While admitting that the party fell short of expectations in terms of capturing municipalities outright, he emphasized that the rise in vote share and seats signals growing public confidence in the BJP as a viable alternative in Telangana politics.

He pointed out that the BJP secured key Chairperson posts in Karimnagar Corporation, Narayanapet, and Bhainsa municipalities, and emerged as the single largest party in Nizamabad with 28 seats.

Rao described the capture of the Karimnagar Mayor’s post independently as a “historic political breakthrough” for the BJP.

Targeting the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Rao claimed the ruling party suffered a 14 per cent drop in vote share and is now confined to just 13 municipalities, indicating what he termed as “declining public trust.”

He also accused the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), Indian National Congress, BRS, and Left parties of tacitly aligning to prevent the BJP from assuming Mayor and Chairperson posts in several civic bodies.

Rao alleged that despite ideological differences, these parties were working together to counter the BJP’s growing influence.

He cited Bhainsa as a politically sensitive region where, according to him, opposition parties had previously prevented the BJP from gaining a foothold.

He claimed that the party’s entry and success there mark a significant political development.

Referring to concerns over voter lists, Rao said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process scheduled to begin in April would help remove “fake” and “outsider” votes, particularly in Hyderabad.

He urged Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to remain vigilant, framing the issue as one of electoral transparency and democratic integrity.

Projecting confidence ahead of future elections, Rao stated that the BJP’s expanding urban base in districts such as Khammam, Warangal, Kothagudem, and Parkal reflects the party’s strengthening grassroots presence.

He expressed optimism that the BJP would emerge as the principal political force in Telangana in the next Assembly elections.

State party general secretaries T. Veerander Goud and Dr. Goutham Rao, ST Morcha president S. Kumar, chief spokesperson and media in-charge N.V. Subhash, and other leaders were present at the press conference.
