Palamuru (Mahabubnagar Dist.) , Feb 4 (TNT) : With the upcoming municipal elections emerging as a key political battleground in Telangana, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana State President N.Ramchander Rao on Wednesday sought to position itself as the principal alternative to the ruling Congress, asserting that voter sentiment was steadily swinging in its favour.
Addressing the Vijay Sankalp Sammellan here, Rao accused the Congress of attempting to divert public attention from civic issues by alleging that the BJP was indulging in divisive politics.
He termed such claims “false propaganda” aimed at weakening the BJP’s growing influence in urban local bodies.
Rao said the municipal elections would be a referendum on governance at the grassroots level, alleging that the Congress government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had failed to ensure effective civic administration, law and order, and urban infrastructure development.
“When power is centralised with the Chief Minister handling key portfolios, failures in civic governance directly reflect the government’s inefficiency,” he said.
Highlighting BJP’s recent electoral performance, Rao pointed to the party’s gains in parliamentary, graduate MLC and local body elections, claiming these results demonstrated a steady expansion of the BJP’s organisational base.
He said the party’s success in winning a significant number of sarpanch, ward member and deputy sarpanch posts reflected growing acceptance among voters at the grassroots.
Taking aim at both Congress and the BRS, Rao said repeated claims by rival parties of sweeping victories in municipal polls reflected political overconfidence.
“Voters have already shown that arrogance in power does not last long,” he remarked.
On the issue of development funding, Rao rejected allegations that the Centre had neglected Telangana, stating that national allocations for sectors such as MSMEs and railways would benefit the State as well.
He asserted that BJP-run municipalities would be better positioned to coordinate with the Centre and secure development funds.
Calling on party cadres to intensify outreach ahead of the civic polls, Rao urged them to take the Centre’s welfare schemes, implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to every household.
He expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as a major force in the municipal elections, particularly in Mahabubnagar district, setting the stage for a broader political shift in Telangana in the coming years.
