BJP State Chief Urges Telangana Education Policy to Focus on Literacy and Higher Education

Hyderabad, Mar 10 (TNT): BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday urged that the forthcoming Telangana Education Policy should prioritize increasing literacy and guiding students toward higher education, criticizing the state government’s draft as ideologically skewed.

Speaking at a round table conference on “Telangana Education System – 2026,” organized by Forum for Nationalist Thinkers at the  Osmania University here, Rao alleged that the Telangana Education Commission, tasked with drafting the new policy, was dominated by individuals with “Urban Naxal” and Maoist leanings, and warned that the government’s approach risked imposing Leftist ideology on students.

Rao also criticized the state for failing to provide opportunities to qualified teachers, delays in salaries and promotions, and the declining number of government schools in rural areas, citing a drop from 5,021 active schools in 2024–25 to just 2,023 currently.

The BJP chief called for the policy to prioritize the mother tongue, reflect Indian culture and values, retain Sanskrit, and maintain Gurukul schools run by the Tribal Department.

He also condemned suggestions to cut teacher salaries for infrastructure funding, terming them misleading.

Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. T. Thirupathi Rao said the commission’s recommendations were creating confusion in the public education system and stressed the need to fill the 80 per cent faculty vacancies in state universities.

forme Edducation official Prof. R. Limbadri criticized the commission’s report for lacking clear objectives and urged immediate implementation of the Central Government’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Telangana.

The event was attended by former education officials including Prof. T. Papi Reddy and Prof. P. Muralimanohar, BJP MLCs, student union leaders, and education experts.
