New Delhi, Apr 6 (TNT): The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a dedicated indigenous testing centre for aviation security equipment, including full body scanners.
The MoU was held in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and both institutions.
The proposed centre will conduct trials, performance evaluation and certification of security screening equipment used at airports, creating a scientific and independent mechanism to strengthen India’s aviation security framework.
Under the agreement, RRU will establish and operate the facility in collaboration with BCAS, undertaking testing and certification of equipment supplied by manufacturers and providing assessment reports for regulatory approval.
The initiative aims to promote self-reliance in aviation security by developing indigenous standards and supporting domestic manufacturers, while aligning with global certification practices.
The MoU also предусматри cooperation in research, training and capacity building, including specialised programmes and knowledge-sharing initiatives in emerging aviation security technologies.
The Union Minister said the collaboration will help build a future-ready aviation security ecosystem, noting the rapid expansion of India’s aviation sector, with airports increasing from 74 in 2014 to 165 at present and handling thousands of passengers and aircraft movements every hour.
