Hyderabad, Apr 10 (TNT): Actor and Chairman of Nandamuri Basavataraka Ramarao Memorial Cancer Foundation, Nandamuri Balakrishna, on Friday inaugurated the two-day international conference ISDE India Edition 2026, focused on esophageal cancer, in Hyderabad.
The event is jointly hosted by the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus and Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, coinciding with the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the hospital.
The conference ,which is being held in India for the first time, has brought together more than 150 oncologists from across the globe, including experts from Canada, Singapore, Japan, Australia and the United States, along with leading Indian clinicians.
Speaking on the occasion, Balakrishna said hosting the first Indian edition of ISDE was a historic moment and noted that Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital was celebrating 25 years of service in cancer care, research and academic excellence.
He said the institution remained committed to making world-class cancer treatment accessible to all sections of society.
He said India was emerging as a key contributor in global oncology due to its clinical expertise, patient volumes and medical talent, and that events like ISDE India Edition 2026 reflect the country’s growing influence in the global medical community.
Trust Board Member Nara Brahmani said the hospital was founded with the vision of providing quality cancer care to all, irrespective of social or economic status, and that the institution would continue to focus on innovation, inclusivity and research in the coming years.
Medical Director and Chief Surgical Oncologist T Subramanyeswara Rao said the conference would strengthen India’s position in the global fight against esophageal cancer by bringing world-class expertise to Hyderabad.
The conference will deliberate on advancements in minimally invasive and robotic esophagectomy, endoscopic submucosal dissection, multimodal therapies and translational research for targeted cancer treatment.
International experts including Lorenzo Ferri, Ken Kato, Hiroyuki Daiko, Edward Cheong, Cuong Duong and Steven Lin are participating in the conference.
