Hyderabad, Apr 7 (TNT): Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Tuesday advised farmers to avoid excessive use of urea and adopt scientific farming practices.
Interacting with farmers under the weekly “Rythu Nestam” programme from the Secretariat via video conference, Tummala sought feedback on the Urea App, with farmers appreciating its convenience in enabling fertiliser booking from home and reducing waiting time at outlets.
The government would take decisions based on farmers’ feedback, the Minister directed officials to ensure greater participation in the programme aimed at addressing farmers’ concerns and promoting modern agriculture.
He cautioned that overuse of urea damages soil health, reduces crop yields and increases pest incidence, noting that the state has relatively high urea consumption.
With the harvesting season underway, he urged farmers not to burn crop residue, citing environmental concerns.
Tummala also encouraged farmers to take up oil palm cultivation along with crops such as paddy, cotton and maize, stating it offers stable and higher income potential.
