AP to distribute 4.5 lakh houses to poor by year-end: CM Naidu

Naidupeta (Tirupati Dist), Mar 30 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said the State government will distribute 4.5 lakh houses to the poor by the end of this year as part of its housing initiative.

Speaking at a housewarming programme for TIDCO housing units here, Naidu said that 2.5 lakh houses built across more than 30 locations in the state have been distributed to beneficiaries.

He added that in the past 21 months alone, around 5.5 lakh houses have been completed and handed over.

The Chief Minister participated in the housewarming ceremonies alongside beneficiaries and inspected newly constructed housing complexes equipped with basic infrastructure such as parks, walking tracks, roads, schools, and anganwadi centres.

He also took part in traditional rituals and interacted with families moving into their new homes.

Highlighting future targets, Naidu said the government aims to ensure that no poor family remains without a house by 2029, with a total target of constructing 17 lakh houses.

He also emphasised welfare initiatives undertaken over the past 21 months, stating that the government has spent nearly ₹60,000 crore on pensions and extended financial assistance to 47 lakh farmers under investment support schemes.

Additionally, funds have been released for unemployed youth through a job calendar featuring over 10,000 posts.

The Chief Minister noted that March has been a landmark month for welfare, with several initiatives including support for women entrepreneurs, financial aid to fishermen, and assistance to disadvantaged groups.

He added that steps are being taken to boost industrial growth, including the foundation of a major steel plant expected to generate significant investment and employment.

Criticising the previous government, Naidu alleged mismanagement of funds and irregularities in housing schemes, claiming that projects were undertaken in unsuitable locations and public money was misused.

He further stated that the government is working towards improving governance and public services, warning that strict monitoring and surprise inspections will be conducted across the state from April to ensure accountability.

On fisheries, the Chief Minister assured protection for local fishermen, stating that measures will be taken to prevent intrusion by fishermen from neighbouring states into Andhra Pradesh waters.

Additional patrol boats will be deployed to safeguard their livelihoods, the CM added.
