Amaravati, Feb 24 (TNT ): Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh on Tuesday said the government will take all necessary steps to fill vacancies in Government Junior Colleges on a war footing to strengthen public education.
Replying to a question raised by Legislative Council member A. Shivarami Reddy in the House, Lokesh said nine Government Junior Colleges have been sanctioned in the erstwhile Anantapur district. Teaching staff posts have been sanctioned in all nine colleges, while non-teaching staff posts were approved in five colleges.
The Minister said that when he assumed charge as Education Minister, there was no comprehensive data on the number of students studying in government schools and junior colleges or the deployment of teachers.
He noted that it took nearly 20 months to compile and organise the required information.
The Minister said the government is adopting an integrated approach in sanctioning schools and junior colleges and is committed to developing Government Junior Colleges on par with private institutions.
He stressed the need to recruit adequate teaching staff, establish laboratories, and provide study material for competitive examinations.
He also said the mid-day meal scheme has been reintroduced for Intermediate students and free textbooks are being supplied.
Lokesh reiterated that the government is committed to expediting recruitment and strengthening infrastructure to improve the quality of education in Government Junior Colleges.
