Amaravati, Feb 8 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday ordered a detailed probe into possible food and hygiene lapses following the mass illness of students at the Devarapalli Ashram Boys’ Hostel in Rampachodavaram, Polavaram district.
During a high-level review with CMO and department officials, the Chief Minister was informed that 92 hostel students complained of vomiting, stomach pain, fever and diarrhoea after consuming breakfast on Friday morning.
The students were immediately rushed to Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram Area Hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Officials said the condition of all affected students is stable.
The Chief Minister was apprised that officials inspected the hostel premises soon after the incident and conducted medical check-ups for all remaining students as a precautionary measure.
A special medical camp was also organised at the hostel to prevent further spread of illness.
As part of the investigation, food samples and drinking water samples from the hostel have been collected and sent for laboratory analysis to identify the exact cause of the illness.
A Joint Inspection Committee has been constituted to examine food preparation practices, sanitation standards and overall hostel management.
Expressing concern over student safety, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the students’ health and submit regular updates.
He instructed the District Collector to submit a comprehensive report on the incident by Sunday.
Warning against negligence, the CM made it clear that strict departmental action would be taken against those found responsible, and criminal proceedings would also be initiated if the probe establishes serious lapses.
