Amaravati, Apr 10 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday directed officials and oil companies to address domestic gas supply challenges arising out of global conflicts and emphasised the need to promote Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a preferred alternative for households.
Reviewing the domestic gas supply situation with officials at the Secretariat, Naidu instructed authorities to create awareness among beneficiaries of the Deepam Scheme on the benefits of shifting to PNG connections.
He said beneficiaries opting for PNG would continue to receive the subsidy being provided under the Deepam scheme and directed officials to issue orders immediately in this regard.
Naidu stressed that beneficiaries should be clearly informed they can retain scheme benefits even after switching to PNG.
The Chief Minister reviewed steps being taken by oil companies to expand PNG connections and address supply constraints.
He set a target of achieving 10 lakh PNG connections within the next six months and directed officials to ensure timely implementation.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that the domestic gas supply situation is expected to stabilise soon.
Reviewing the delay in the Srikakulam–Kakinada Natural Gas Pipeline Project, Naidu sought an explanation from officials and was informed that certain decisions were pending at the Central level.
He subsequently spoke with Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and urged him to expedite completion of the project, noting that the tendering process had already been completed.
The Union Minister responded positively and assured that the matter would be reviewed shortly and necessary action taken to speed up the project.
