Tirupati, Mar 16 (TNT): The Sankirtanas of Tallapaka Annamacharya continue to serve as an inspirational literary treasure for generations, blending devotion, philosophy and human values, a TTD official said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a literary seminar as part of the 523rd death anniversary celebrations of Annamayya at Annamacharya Kalamandiram here, Krishnamurthy, Special Officer of Puranic and Historical Projects of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), highlighted the unique charm of the saint poet’s compositions.
He said Annamayya’s poetry holds a distinguished place in Telugu literature for its simplicity, sweetness and depth of emotion, combining devotional fervour with poetic beauty and profound spiritual philosophy.
Acharya Nirmala of Vijayawada, speaking on the literary grandeur of Annamayya, described him as a great poet who earned an immortal place in Telugu devotional literature.
She noted that his Sankirtanas in praise of Lord Venkateswara reflect devotion, philosophy, social awareness and human values.
Retired professor Acharya Sarvottama Rao of Sri Venkateswara University highlighted that Annamayya’s compositions vividly portray human relationships, including those between mother and child, husband and wife, guru and disciple, and devotee and the divine.
Dr. Subrahmanyam also spoke on Annamayya as a socially conscious poet.
The event is part of a series of programmes being organised by TTD to mark the saint poet’s death anniversary, which also includes musical and cultural performances.
