AINEF Completes 65 Years; Senior Leaders to Be Felicitated at CWC Meeting

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (TNT): The All India Newspaper Employees Federation (AINEF) has completed 65 years of service to journalists and non-journalist employees in the newspaper industry.

Founded in 1960, AINEF has played a significant role in addressing issues concerning wages, service conditions and labour rights of media employees across the country.

The federation’s senior leaders, who have guided the organisation over the decades, will be felicitated at the upcoming Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, the venue of which will be announced shortly, said the Federation General Secretary V. Balagopalan and Senior Vice President Ch. Purnachandra Rao in a statement here on Friday.

AINEF is a prominent national-level trade union representing the interests of both journalists and non-journalist employees in the newspaper industry.

The federation has consistently advocated implementation of wage board recommendations, including those of the Majithia Wage Board, to ensure fair pay and service conditions.

The federation has also urged the repeal of the Working Journalists and Other Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1955, calling for modern legislation to safeguard media professionals in the digital era.

AINEF leaders said the federation strongly opposes the practice of hiring journalists through third-party agencies or on short-term contracts, alleging that such arrangements are used to bypass labour protections.

The federation is a full affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and has units and affiliated unions in several states.

It is also campaigning for the constitution of a new national wage board to address inflation and ensure decent living standards for newspaper employees.

The leaders reiterated AINEF’s commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity and welfare of media workers across the country.
