Bibinagar (Yadadri Bhuvanagiri Dist, Telangana), Feb 3 (TNT) : Union Minister G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday stated that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital to be completed by the end of this year.
Addressing the media after reviewing the progress of construction works of the hosplitals and inspecting the campus here, Kishan Reddy said that the hospital is being developed over 202 acres with a capacity of 750 beds and equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities.
The project is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹1,110 crore, of which ₹831 crore has already been spent, he said that nearly 86 per cent of the total construction work has been completed so far.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the project, Kishan Reddy said that while most AIIMS institutions in the country are greenfield projects, Bibinagar is the only brownfield AIIMS being developed.
He noted that construction activities are progressing at a rapid pace while medical services continue uninterrupted.
He said emergency services at AIIMS Bibinagar have been operational since January 1 this year, with 220 beds currently available in the emergency block.
On average, around 1,800 patients are availing OPD services every day, he added.
He further informed that hostels with 24 floors are under construction for medical students and that more than 1,000 staff members have already been recruited.
At present, the institute has 880 medical students, including 497 MBBS students, 146 pursuing specialist courses, and 142 enrolled in nursing courses. Research facilities are also being developed as part of the institute’s expansion, he said.
To support patients and their attendants, special accommodation facilities named “Amrit Nivasa” are being set up on the campus, he stated that free treatment will be provided under Ayushman Bharat and Aarogyasri schemes, while others will be charged only nominal fees.
He said that once completed, AIIMS Bibinagar will significantly improve access to quality healthcare for the rural population of Telangana.
Efforts are also underway to establish a railway station near AIIMS, and with the proposed ₹450-crore MMTS Phase-II project, an MMTS stop will also be set up close to the campus, he informed.
Local issues related to AIIMS will be brought to the notice of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy , he added.
